Our mission at Divide Coffee is not only to roast the finest sustainably harvested and fairly traded coffees, but to use our business and roasting experience to facilitate grassroots non-profit fundraising in order to serve larger social ideals.  Divide was born out of the our experience running a bustling coffee shop and roastery in Bozeman, Montana.  Bozeman is a small town blessed by natural beauty, a fantastic university, a socially aware population and over 400 registered non-profits working on local, national and international issues.  Our 3000 sq. ft. cafe, thanks to its casual atmosphere and commitment to community, was the meeting place for many of those non-profits and community groups, and over time we became increasingly involved in a variety of community focused activities.  

One of our biggest community initiatives was the creation of the first in the country, free to the public, fully equipped, Ski and Bike Lounge.  The lounge was a place where anyone in town, customer or not, could wax their skis, tune their bikes, find old parts, attend a free workshop on ski tuning or bicycle repair, watch a movie on the big screen or simply plug in their iPod and chill.  

It was through these efforts we realized that a coffee shop and roastery could do much, much more than just roast beans,  make lattes and direct a small portion of the profits to non-profits.  Our experience working with various not-for-profits convinced us of the need for a business that offered organizations “frictionless” fundraising solutions; solutions that raise funds and awareness but which require no financial risk or which tap the human resources of already stretched philanthropic organizations.   In the Fall of 2011 we sold our shop and have directed the proceeds and our energies towards this end.
